As an artist, my work is deeply rooted in the exploration of intimacy, human connection, and the delicate interplay of light and shadow. Drawing inspiration from the timeless techniques of chiaroscuro pioneered by Rembrandt, and the psychological depth found in the works of Caravaggio, Diego Velasquez, Thomas Eakins, Francisco Goya and Egon Schiele, I strive to bridge the gap between classical artistry and contemporary themes.

In my piece "Suspended Moments," I capture a tender, paused moment between two nude figures, their bodies bathed in dramatic chiaroscuro lighting. By focusing on the curves and contours of their breasts, highlighted in vibrant tones of teal and pink, I create a striking contrast that evokes both mystery and intimacy. This blend of classical lighting with modern color palettes reflects my fascination with the raw, unfiltered beauty of human relationships.

My work delves into themes of vulnerability, closeness, and the ephemeral nature of intimate moments. By pausing a scene from a private, sensual encounter, I invite viewers to contemplate the nuances of desire and connection, exploring the emotional depth and psychological complexity inherent in these experiences.

The use of chiaroscuro in my artwork not only emphasizes the physical forms but also draws attention to the emotional resonance of the subjects. The dramatic interplay of light and shadow creates a dynamic tension that speaks to the complexities of modern relationships, highlighting the timeless relevance of classical techniques in expressing contemporary themes.

Through my art, I aim to create a dialogue between the viewer and the artwork, encouraging introspection and emotional engagement. "Suspended Moments" exemplifies my commitment to reinterpreting traditional methods for today's artistic landscape, underscoring the continuous evolution of art in capturing the human experience. My work is a testament to the enduring power of chiaroscuro, reimagined through a contemporary lens to explore the beauty and complexity of modern intimacy.

In "Illuminated Seduction," I delve into the intersection of timeless technique and contemporary subject matter, drawing inspiration from the masters of chiaroscuro—Caravaggio, Diego Velasquez, and Thomas Eakins. This piece captures a moment of private ritual as a young woman, bathed in dramatic light and shadow, applies lipstick.

Through the use of chiaroscuro lighting, reminiscent of Caravaggio’s intense contrasts, I aim to highlight the interplay between light and dark, creating a sense of depth and mystery. The light gently caresses her face, drawing attention to the sensual act of applying lipstick, while the shadows evoke an air of intimacy and introspection.

Influenced by Velasquez’s ability to capture the essence of his subjects with psychological depth, the painting reflects a quiet moment of self-reflection and transformation. The girl’s expression and pose suggest a narrative beyond the immediate action, inviting viewers to ponder her thoughts and emotions.

Thomas Eakins’ dedication to realism and the human form is echoed in the meticulous rendering of the figure. Every detail, from the subtle sheen of the lipstick to the texture of her skin, is crafted to convey a sense of lifelike presence and authenticity. The composition, with its careful attention to perspective and anatomy, grounds the scene in reality while imbuing it with an ethereal quality.

"Illuminated Seduction" is not just a study of light and form; it is an exploration of the intimate moments that define our identities. It speaks to the ritualistic nature of self-adornment and the quiet power found in the act of preparing oneself for the world. Through this piece, I invite viewers to witness and reflect upon the delicate balance between vulnerability and confidence, darkness and light.

“Obscured Desires” is an intimate exploration of sexuality and human connection, crafted in the chiaroscuro style influenced by the techniques of Rembrandt, Francisco Goya, and Egon Schiele. This piece captures a provocative and tender moment between two nude figures, their bodies entwined in a sensuous embrace, all illuminated by the dramatic interplay of light and shadow.

Drawing from Rembrandt’s mastery of chiaroscuro, the lighting in “Obscured Desires” creates a profound depth and texture, highlighting the curves and contours of the figures while casting the rest of the scene in shadow. This use of light not only enhances the physicality of the subjects but also evokes a sense of intimacy and secrecy, reminiscent of the private, unseen moments that define our lives.

Inspired by Francisco Goya’s exploration of the human condition and the darker aspects of desire, this piece delves into themes of eroticism, vulnerability, and the complexities of human relationships. The unconventional perspective challenges the viewer’s perception, creating a sense of voyeurism and engagement with the unfolding drama. This composition evokes the unsettling beauty and psychological depth found in Goya’s works.

Egon Schiele’s influence is evident in the expressive, almost raw portrayal of the human form. The figures are depicted with an intensity that captures their emotional and physical connection, their bodies rendered in a way that is both tender and unflinchingly honest. Schiele’s ability to convey deep psychological insight through body language and composition informs the dynamic arrangement of this piece, adding a layer of narrative complexity.

“Obscured Desires” aims to provoke and captivate, inviting viewers to contemplate the nature of intimacy, desire, and the human experience. The chiaroscuro lighting not only emphasizes the physical forms but also creates a theatrical atmosphere, as if the scene is a fleeting moment captured in a film. Through this artwork, I seek to explore the boundaries of light and dark, public and private, and the profound connections that lie within.

In my art piece, I draw inspiration from the subject of tragedy in art, exploring the profound experiences of human life. Through the meticulous crafting of a full cloak and dress from discarded cassava trash bags, I delve into the transformative journey of emotional and spiritual purification. This resonates with the age-old theme of tragedy depicted in various artistic expressions such as painting, sculpture, music, poetry, theatre, and performance. The rough, textured appearance of the cassava bags, set against the elegant garment design, serves as a visual metaphor for the purging of negative emotions and experiences, aligning with the broader tradition of using art to portray and process the complexities of human existence.

In creating this art piece, I wanted to convey a powerful message about the resilience of nature. As I observed the leaves drying up and withering away, I couldn’t help but be struck by the beauty that still remained. The vibrant colors may have faded, and the leaves may have lost their vitality, but they continued to hold a unique and captivating beauty.

In a world that often focuses on the lush and vibrant aspects of nature, I wanted to shed light on the often-overlooked beauty in the later stages of life. The intricate patterns and delicate textures that emerged as the leaves dried up were a testament to nature’s ability to adapt and transform.

It’s a reminder that even in adversity, there is grace and elegance to be found. Nature teaches us that there is beauty in every stage of life, and it’s up to us to appreciate and celebrate it. Through this artwork, I hope to inspire others to see the resilience and enduring beauty that exists all around us, even in the most unexpected places.

In my artwork, I've employed mirrors facing each other to delve into Carl Jung's concept of the "shadow." The mirrors symbolize introspection, emphasizing the act of self-reflection. Positioned in the middle, a human figure is engulfed in the void of limitless shadow, representing the unconscious aspects of oneself. This composition aims to visually articulate Jung's philosophy on the shadow, urging the viewer to confront and integrate the often overlooked or darker facets of their personality.

As I examine my painting, an album cover featuring Chuck Mangione and his iconic song "Feels So Good," I find myself drawn to the intricate interplay between visual elements and the broader concept of material culture in the realm of archaeology. The cover, a canvas of symbols and images, showcases Chuck Mangione in a manner that invites reflection on the aesthetics of his era. The lyrics of "Feels So Good" resonate through the artwork, shaping its mood and emotional undertones. As I delve into the archaeological context, the material culture becomes a focal point for understanding past human civilizations. In this artistic production, the album cover acts as a conduit between art and archaeology, weaving together historical elements that reconstruct the cultural milieu of Chuck Mangione's time. It prompts me to consider how the visual elements contribute to the narrative of the past and encourage a reflection on the collective memory associated with the era. Through the lens of material culture, the album cover becomes not just a representation of Chuck Mangione but a visual artifact that connects us to the past, offering insights into the long sequences of human culture and influencing our contemporary perception of history.

"Poopy Reactor" is a thought-provoking art piece addressing the revival of nuclear power plants in the Philippines. Crafted from coconut husk, a material commonly used as cat litter, the sculpture challenges the government's focus on nuclear energy and advocates for a shift towards waste-to-energy and renewables.

The use of organic materials in art connects with humanity's historical artistic practices, symbolizing a deep connection with the environment. The cone-shaped structure, resembling a nuclear reactor, visually emphasizes the need for reconsideration. The juxtaposition of coconut husk with the nuclear symbol prompts viewers to reflect on sustainable choices.
